Video Poker Rules

Jacks or Better | Jokers Wild | Deuces Wild

The rules for video poker are pretty easy to understand. The ranking of the hand in video poker is the same as in regular poker. Since it is not possible to bluff, because the game is played on a machine, of course, the only goal is to get the best paying hand. Start to play by pressing the Deal/Draw button. The poker machine deals a five card hand. Underneath each card will be a button where you can decide which cards you want to keep and which you want to throw away.

You can hold or throw away as many cards as you like. After you make your selection which cards you want to hold or discard, you may press the Deal/Draw button again and the machine will replace the cards you choose to throw away with new ones. If you have a winning hand after this second deal you get paid.

Underneath are lists of ranking hands and pay outs for the most common video poker games.

Jacks or Better

Winning hands starting with the lowest:

  • Pair of Jacks or better / Pair of Jacks ,Queens, Kings or Aces (As the hand name says), returns your stake.
  • Two Pairs / A hand with Two Pairs (Two Tens and Two Queens for instance), pays double your stake.
  • Three of a Kind / Three cards of the same Value (Three Nines for instance), pays triple your stake.
  • Straight / Five consecutive cards but not from the same Suit (8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen), pays 3 times your stake.
  • Flush / Five cards of the same Suit (7, 9, 10, Queen, Ace), they need not to be in particular order, pays 5 to 6 times your stake.
  • Full House / Two cards of one Value and Three cards of another Value (Two Sevens, Three Kings), pays 6 to 9 times your stake.
  • Four of a Kind / Four cards of the same Value (Four Kings for instance), pays 25 times your stake.
  • Straight Flush / Five cards of the same Suit in consecutive order (8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen of Diamonds), pays 50 times your stake.
  • Royal Flush / Same as the Straight Flush but highest card must be Ace (10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace), pays 250 times if you bet from 1 to 4 coins and 4000 times if you make a five coin bet.
  • Jokers Wild

Jokers Wild is played with a regular 52 card Poker deck and as a wild card a Joker is added. You can use this Joker as any card you want. This, of course, increases your chance of a winning combination in video poker. The Joker comes up in one of ten deals on average. The pay outs are also slightly different.

Winning hands starting with the lowest:

  • Two Pairs / A hand with Kings or Aces, returns your stake.
  • Three of a Kind / Three cards of the same Value (Three Nines for instance), pays 2 times your stake.
  • Straight / Five consecutive cards but not from the same Suit (8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen), pays 3 times your stake.
  • Flush / Five cards of the same Suit (7, 9, 10, Queen, Ace), they need not to be in particular order, pays 5 times your stake.
  • Full House / Two cards of one Value and Three cards of another Value (Two Sevens, Three Kings), pays 5 or 8 times your stake.
  • Four of a Kind / Four cards of the same Value (Four Kings for instance), pays 15 or 20 times your stake.
  • Straight Flush / Five cards of the same Suit in consecutive order (8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen of Diamonds), pays 40 or 50 times your stake.
  • Joker Royal Flush / Same as the Straight Flush but one of the five cards must be a Joker (7, 8, Joker, 10, Jack), pays 100 times your stake.
  • Deuces Wild

If you play Deuces Wild you always have to remember that you can use the four Two's (Deuces) as Wild Cards. You can use them as any card you want to, in any Suit and in any Rank. So you could use the Two of Diamonds to complete a Straight Flush in Hearts. Make sure you always keep that in mind when you play. This feature increases your winning chances a lot. Due to this higher chance of winning the lowest winning hand is a Three of a Kind.

Winning hands starting with the lowest:

  • Three of a Kind / Three cards of the same Value (Three Nines for instance), returns your stake.
  • Straight / Five consecutive cards but not from the same Suit (8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen), pays 2 times your stake.
  • Flush / Five cards of the same Suit (7, 9, 10, Queen, Ace), they need not to be in particular order, pays 2 or 3 times your stake.
  • Full House / Two cards of one Value and Three cards of another Value (Two Sevens, Three Kings), pays 3 or 4 times your stake.
  • Four of a Kind / Four cards of the same Value (Four Kings for instance), pays 4 or 5 times your stake.
  • Straight Flush / Five cards of the same Suit in consecutive order (8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen of Diamonds), pays 8 or 10 times your stake.
  • The hands above pay the same whether they contain Two's or not. The hands below, however, need to contain at least one Two:

  • Five of a Kind / Five cards of the same Value (Including One Deuce or more: Four Nines and One Two for instance), pays 15 or 16 times your stake.
  • Wild Royal Flush / Five cards of the same Suit in consecutive order where the Ace must be the highest, (Containing One or more Two's: 10, Jack, Two, King, Ace for instance), pays 25 or 30 times your stake.
  • Four Deuces / A hand with Four Deuces, pays 200 times your stake.
  • Royal Flush Without Deuces / Five cards of the same Suit in consecutive order where the Ace must be the highest, (10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace), pays 250 times if you bet from 1 to 4 coins and 4000 times if you make a five coin bet.
