History of Blackjack

There is not much known about the history of Blackjack, Nobody really knows exactly how blackjack was created. Both the French and the Italian claim that they invented the game, but the first mention of blackjack was found in the writings Homer around 700 B.C. and later again by Ptolemy around 250 B.C.

During the First World War, blackjack was the most popular game played by soldiers, and even more played than poker. In these times, the game was a private rather than a banking game.

There exists a legend that the biggest sum of money during the war was won by a Blackjack banker in the Armed Forces of approximately $137 500. The story credits an Army corporal in the Pacific theater with the win. The story goes that he won thanks to his occupation before the war in Chicago as a Blackjack dealer.

Drusus, the stepson of the Roman Emperor Augustus, loved to play blackjack. Story goes that when he led the Roman troops into Germany in 12 B.C. they lost a decisive battle, because the men were busy playing blackjack.

Blackjack is the most popular of all casino table games, and it's also one of the easiest. The aim of the game is to get a hand of cards with a total points score of as close to twenty-one as possible without going over.

Number cards carry face value, Face cards (King, Queen, Jack) carry ten points and Aces can be either one or eleven points, whichever the player chooses. If a player's hand goes over 21 points, the hand is "bust" and the player loses.

Players around the blackjack table must first place their bets, and then the dealer will distribute two faces up cards to every player, as well as two cards to him or herself, one face up and one face down.

Each player must then take their turn, choosing either to stay on the hand they have been dealt or taking additional cards from the deck. A player can take as many cards as they like, as long as the hand doesn
